JUNGIAN DREAMWORK & SHADOW WORK

dreams ARE...

"The Water of Life" - Carl Jung; "The Royal Road to the Unconscious" - Sigmund Freud

Dream Work: A Deep Dive into Your Inner Landscape

Welcome to a corner of my website dedicated entirely to dreams—those enigmatic night-time stories that most of us experience yet rarely fully understand. If you’re here, chances are you’re curious about how dreams can guide you toward genuine self-discovery, healing, and meaning. I invite you to explore this fascinating approach with me.

Why Focus on Dreams?

Dreams are, in many ways, letters from your deeper self. During the day, we rely on logic, language, and reasoning. At night, our unconscious mind communicates in symbols, metaphors, and archetypal images—a sort of private, symbolic language that can reveal truths we might otherwise miss. This is the essence of Jungian dream work: learning to read that subtle code and integrate its wisdom into your waking life.

I’ve devoted many years to studying dream psychology, drawing on the works of Carl Jung (archetypes, the shadow, anima/animus), as well as other pioneers in psychotherapy. My own personal dream journal spans over 162,000 words, offering a deeply personal perspective that can’t be gained from textbooks alone.

I’ve witnessed first-hand how insights from the unconscious can make your jaw drop—prompting sudden clarity or even a slow, steady realization that rearranges your entire sense of self.

What Makes My Approach Different?

  1. Collaborative Interpretation
I don’t dictate what your dream “should” mean. Instead, we unpack the symbols together, using Jungian ideas about archetypes, the shadow, and anima/animus as starting points—not rigid formulas. Each dream is an invitation to dialogue with the deeper parts of yourself.
  2. Gradual Unfolding
Dreams can be tricky, carrying multiple or overlapping meanings. Often, the “ah-ha” moments don’t come all at once but emerge progressively, like an old photograph developing in the darkroom. Over time, patterns across multiple dreams will begin to paint a broader portrait of your inner landscape.
  3. Integrated Wisdom
While Jungian dream work is at the heart of what I do, I also draw on attachment theory, person-centred therapy, and the Power Threat Meaning Framework to contextualize the insights we glean from your dreams. This holistic blend ensures we’re not just chasing interesting theories but grounding them in your real-life experiences and relationships.
  4. Deep Enthusiasm & Experience
Beyond formal study, I’ve interpreted dreams for myself, friends, clients, and even strangers (sometimes spontaneously, because when dream talk begins, it’s hard not to get enthralled!). My approach is passionate, slightly eccentric, and deeply respectful of the process. Every dream we explore is a step in an unfolding adventure of self-discovery.

The Potential of Jungian Dream Work

  • Reclaiming Hidden Parts of You
Dreams often highlight forgotten or repressed elements within our psyche—pieces of the shadow or previously neglected personal traits. When these come to light, you can integrate them, becoming more whole and authentic in daily life.
  • Solving Seemingly Impossible Problems
The unconscious mind is brilliantly creative. Issues that feel stuck or unsolvable by day can appear in symbolic form at night, suggesting innovative solutions or surprising shifts in perspective.
  • Finding Deeper Meaning
If you sense there’s “more” to life—something bigger, more mysterious—dreams can illuminate your personal myth or deeper calling. Jung believed that dreams connect us to a numinous dimension, where sacred encounters and transformative insights abound.
  • Healing Old Wounds
Whether related to attachment trauma, past relationships, or hidden grief, dreams can pinpoint where healing is most needed. By working intentionally with these messages, you can address emotional wounds that might otherwise remain buried.

Is Dream Work for Everyone?

Absolutely not—and that’s okay. While I believe dream work can be a game-changer, it’s not the only path to psychological growth. If you’re drawn to symbolism, depth, and the deeper mysteries of the psyche, then you’ll likely find dream exploration incredibly rewarding. If that’s not where your interest lies, know that effective therapy can still happen without discussing a single dream.

But if you are curious, if dreams fascinate you, or if you notice repetitive or striking images in your sleep, then exploring them can open doors to a dimension of your psyche that’s rich with possibility.

Practicalities & What to Expect

  • Session Flow
We’ll look at your dreams in a safe, relaxed space. I’ll ask questions, offer insights from Jungian psychology, and we’ll track connections to your waking life. Over time, themes and patterns often become clearer, leading to deeper self-understanding.
  • Frequency
Some clients bring dreams to every session; others discuss them now and then. There’s no pressure to produce a dream on a schedule. Your unconscious does the timing for you!
  • Privacy & Respect
Sharing dreams is intimate work. Often, the images and stories can feel deeply personal. I treat them with respect, curiosity, and gratitude for the glimpse into your inner world.
  • No “Right” or “Wrong”
A dream doesn’t have to be “profound” to be important. Even the weird, jumbled, or seemingly trivial dreams can carry meaning—sometimes those are the ones that spark the biggest shifts.

Are You Ready?

If you’ve read this far, there’s a good chance you’re intrigued by the idea of dream work. Maybe you’re already recalling a recent dream that caught your attention, or a recurring night-time theme you’ve never fully understood. Perhaps you’re just sensing that your psyche is calling you to a deeper kind of exploration, and dream work might be the compass.

I’m here to walk that path with you, bringing enthusiasm, humor, vulnerability, and a wealth of experience interpreting dreams. Yes, it can get intense. It can also be breathtakingly beautiful. And it’s often both, at the same time.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
— Carl Jung

Let’s collaborate with your unconscious, decode its symbolism, and chart a course toward deeper understanding and meaningful growth. If you’re ready for a journey that transcends ordinary talk therapy—let’s talk about dream work.

A Single Dream Can Bring Catharsis And New Direction

"When Rick offered to interpret my dreams I told him that I didn't have them or at least I don't remember them. But, Rick reassured me that it need not be a recent dream or a complete retelling, and so I told what little I remembered of a dream from my childhood. I told it expecting a fun and creative take of an irrelevant dream, but I didn't expect Rick to also expose a narrative that has been playing throughout my life that my conscience self has been ignoring. I was deeply touched by Rick's handling of this unexpected raw part of my personality that I have been running from. He has truly sparked an enthusiasm for interpreting my dreams within me. Thanks Rick"

The Importance Of Remembered Childhood Dreams

When you tell me a dream you are telling me something about yourself that you don’t know, but if between us we can find its meaning then you will recognize it deep inside you and often, especially for remembered recurring childhood dreams, it will be like a fractal in your life that plays out at all different scales again and again,
